Brett Baty’s resurgence continued in a win over the Royals on Wednesday. The third baseman came up clutch, extending the Mets’ lead to 4-1 with a two-run single in the eighth inning of a 6-2 victory at Citi Field.
A checked swing turned into a fractured hand for the struggling Mets infielder, and it may have closed the door on one of the team's deadline options.
The Mets wound up needing every bit of that cushion, as it turned out. The Braves rally featured more bad Mets defense, as Brazoban whipped a pickoff through into foul ground in right when first baseman Jared Young was nowhere near the bag. Brazoban couldn’t stop the bleeding, and a Drake Baldwin grand slam made it 10-8.
